Township Summer Book Collection Shatters Record
Over 16,000 children's books were collected in four hours at a contactless event in Winnetka July 10th.

The New Trier Township Kids Who Read Rise Summer 2020 Children’s Book Drive shattered all previous summer collections during a one day event held July 10th. A contactless drive-through format was organized in the parking lot of the Winnetka Presbyterian Church to minimize risk of spreading the Coronavirus (collection boxes are normally indoors at local participants).
The community responded heartily, donating approximately 16,500 books in a span of four hours. Bernie’s Book Bank, the recipient of the collection is a Lake Bluff based not-for-profit that sources and distributes books to at-risk children whose families often lack discretionary income for book purchases.
Alan Goldberg, Supervisor of New Trier Township stated, “The North Shore will not permit something like COVID-19 to squelch its neighborly spirit. Our partnership with the Winnetka Presbyterian Church and the wonderful staff from Bernie’s Book Bank brought in an incredible amount of books for the kids. We want to thank everyone who donated.”
