Water Supply in Kenilworth to Switch to Lake Ave. Plant

34-year contract allows Kenilworth to ditch aging plant, buy water from Wilmette.

KENILWORTH, IL - Residents and businesses in Kenilworth could be using Wilmette water as early as November.

Decision makers in both North Shore villages agreed recently to a 34-year contract in which Kenilworth will buy its water from Wilmette for an annual average of $264,000, according to the Wilmette Life. When the change takes place, Kenilworth will no longer produce its own supply at the 87-year-old water treatment facility on Kenilworth Ave., instead being sourced from the Lake Avenue plant in Wilmette.

The contract - which runs through 2050 - states that Kenilworth will pay $1.78 per 1,000 gallons of water.

“We’re pleased to have reached this conclusion,” Kenilworth Village President Bill Russell said. “I think it will be very good in the long run, to control costs. In this day and age, a water plant of Kenilworth’s size is inherently inefficient.”

The deal will result in an average of more than $150,000 in additional revenue for Wilmette.
