Wilmette Police Blotter: March 3 - March 9

WILMETTE, IL — The following information comes from the Wilmette Police Department as a record of police activity and those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent merely accusations by the state and can be dropped or reduced. Anyone named below is innocent unless their guilt is established beyond a reasonable doubt in court.

INCIDENTS

THEFT
Someone stole a package from a front porch in the 800 block of Oakwood Avenue between 3:19 and 3:40 p.m. on March 2.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Someone damaged the passenger side window of a vehicle parked in the 300 block of Skokie Court between noon and 2:45 p.m. on March 4.

BURGLARY
Around 2:30 a.m. on March 5, an officer on patrol noticed someone had thrown a vehicle wheel through the front door of a gas station in the 3500 block of Lake Avenue. Someone stole a cash register drawer with $200. Three other similar burglaries occurred in Skokie and Evanston.

FRAUD
A resident of the 2100 block of Kenilworth Avenue reported that someone used their credit card information to order two carborators from two different companies and have them shipped to their home from a fraudulent eBay account. Both the card and the eBay account were closed.

CREDIT CARD FRAUD
A resident in the 600 block of Illinois Road reported on March 5 that someone had used their credit card information to make $5,454.84 worth of purchases between Dec. 11 and Jan. 13.

FRAUD
A resident of the 3000 block of Illinois Road reported on March 6 that their computer froze after they clicked on a pop-up advertisements. A short time later, the resident got a call from someone claiming to be able to fix the computer for a $535 payment, so the resident paid the fee electronically and the computer started working again. A few days later, the resident again had computer trouble and called the same number for assistance. This time, the resident was told they would be refunded the initial payment. Soon, the resident got a call back and was told they had been mistakenly refunded $5,500 and the caller asked to be refunded by purchasing gift cards from Target and Best Buy. The victim realized it had been a scam, hung up and disabled their computer.

ACCIDENT
The driver of a Cadillac was ticketed after driving through the front window of a Panera Bread in the 1100 block of Wilmette Avenue around 6 p.m. on March 6.

COMPUTER FRAUD
A resident of the 600 block of Central Avenue reported on March 5 that someone sent out a phishing email from their account to all of their email contacts.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
A resident in the 700 block of Leamington Avenue reported on March 7 that two of their vehicles had been scratched with a key.
