Wilmette Crime: Chicago Motorist Charged Over Codeine

Wilmette Police Blotter: April 28 - May 8

WILMETTE, IL — The following information comes from the Wilmette Police Department. An arrest is not an indication of guilt, and criminal charges are often dropped or reduced. Everyone is presumed innocent until their guilt is established by a court of law.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT (FECES)

Around 6:30 on the morning of April 27, a caller reported someone had defecated near the garbage can behind his business on the 400 block of 4th Street. Similar incidents occurred in March of 2017.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO PROPERTY

On April 27, the maintenance man at the Wilmette Public Library reported that someone had improperly posted notices on three different bulletin boards within the library. The notices read, “NO!” and beneath that, “IN THE NAME OF HUMANITY WE REFUSE TO ACCEPT A FASCIST AMERICA REFUSEFASCISM.ORG”.

THEFT

The victim reported that an unknown offender cut the lock and stole his $1800 Fuji road bike from the rack at the Metra Station at the 700 block of Green Bay Road between 6:55 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on April 29.

COMMERCIAL BURGLARY

Officers responding to an alarm call shortly after 3 a.m. on April 30 at the Verizon store on the 3200 block of Lake discovered that the front entry door glass had been smashed after which unknown offenders entered the store. It was not immediately known what was stolen.

IDENTITY THEFT

  • A victim reported that someone had tried to purchase items at Kohl’s online on April 30 or May 1. She advised Kohl’s that she did not make these purchases and the accounts were closed. Kohl’s has reversed the charges.
  • A victim reported that an unknown offender gained access to her personal information and fraudulently charged approximately $1700 in merchandise to her MasterCard account between May 2 and May 3.
  • A victim reported that between April 28 and May 1 they had received a credit card in the mail between that she and her husband had not opened. At this time they are unaware of any fraudulent purchases.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE (SCHOOL)

The custodian reported that someone damaged the picket fence to the north of Central School between April 28 and May 1. Nine slats of the fence were either broken or completely removed from the fence.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE (COUNTRY CLUB)

Between 5:30 p.m. on May 2 and 8:40 a.m. on May 3 someone caused damage around the greens and fairways of the 12th-14th holes on the 2600 block of Old Glenview Road. Swastikas and genitalia were drawn in the sand, the flag from the 12th green was stolen and a grass seed bin was over turned. Three sets of footwear were observed in the sand.

ARRESTS

DUI

Courtney D. Moran, 31, of the 300 block of East Avenue in Park Ridge was arrested May 1 shortly after 5 p.m. Police said she had a blood alcohol content of .259—more than three times the legal limit. Officers had responded to the area of Lake and Skokie for an accident with one vehicle trying to leave the scene. Police said they found the vehicle at Lake and Laramie and the driver, who they identified as Moran, had a strong order of alcohol on her breath.

POSSESSION OF CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE

Abdur Raheem Sozzer, 21, of the 6300 block of North Maplewood in Chicago was arrested at his place of work at 7:40 p.m. on May 4 after police said a chemistry test showed that a purple liquid that had been found in his car contained codeine. Sozzer was initially pulled over on Jan. 15 in the 100 block of Skokie Boulevard. Police said they detected the strong odor of burnt cannabis and observed residual amounts of a green leafy substance scattered over the console, cup holders, and gearshift, while speaking with him. Wilmette police searched the vehicle and found five unlabeled “medicine bottles” filled with an unknown purple liquid. They sent that liquid to the lab and released Sozzer. Four and half months later, when the lab results came back, police arrested him and charged him with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.
