Wilmette Crime: Identity Thieves, Smashed Car Window, DUI Driver Blows .129

Wilmette police reports: March 14-March 20

WILMETTE, IL — The following information comes from the Wilmette Police Department as a record of police activity. An arrest is not an indication of guilt and criminal charges represent merely an accusation. Everyone is presumed innocent until proved guilty in a court of law.

DUI

Leslie Coronel, 23, of the 2100 block of Seward Street in Evanston, was pulled over on the 3400 block of Lake Avenue at 9:42 p.m. on March 17. She was arrested of DUI after failing field sobriety tests. Her breath test disclosed an alcohol concentration of .129, police said.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

On March 6, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., the back window of a 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander parked on the street was smashed out on the 30000 block of Wilmette Avenue. Nothing was reported missing or disturbed.

IDENTITY THEFT

On Feb. 13, a resident of the 100 block of Central Park learned that someone used his identity in an attempt to unsuccessfully purchase an $80,000 vehicle from Motorwerks of Barrington. His identity was again used in an attempt to purchase a second vehicle in Orlando Florida.

On March 8, it was reported someone had attempted to open a Barney's New York credit card with the personal information of a woman on the 1500 block of Forest without her consent. It was denied.

On March 6, a resident of the 400 block of Linden received a request from the IRS for more information regarding his 2016 tax return. The resident had not yet filed his return and was later told by the IRS that someone had attempted to file using his identity. No return was issued.

On March 17, a resident of the 100 block of Sterling Lane learned that an unknown subject used his AT&T account in an attempt to purchase $2,457.39 in cell phones from an AT&T store in Alabama. The sales associate became suspicious of the transaction and contacted the local police. The subject fled the scene prior to police arrival and has not been identified.
