Wilmette Crime: Nursing Assistant Steals 94-Year-Old Woman's Identity, Prosecutor

WILMETTE, IL — The following information comes from the Wilmette Police Department. It is a record of police activity, and an arrest is not an indication of guilt. Criminal charges can be dropped or reduced, and all defendants are innocent until their guilt is established by a court.

RECKLESS DRIVING

Lisa Maatman, 52, of the 2200 block of Beechwood in Wilmette, was arrested for speeding 34 mph over the limit and reckless driving after being pulled over March 5 at 12:24 a.m.

AGGRAVATED IDENTITY THEFT

On March 2 at 12:21 p.m. detectives arrested Shontayel Burrel, 33, of the 3400 block of Adams in Belwood, a nursing assistant who on Feb. 23 and April 20, 2016 used the identity of a 94-year-old woman to unsuccessfully open a Chase Bank line of credit. At the time the woman was being cared for at Norridge Gardens, where the nursing assistant was employed.

IDENTITY THEFT

Someone reportedly made a series of purchases over the past several months from a home shopping channel and shipped them to Virginia using the information of a resident on the 1200 block of Forest.

Around noon on March 4, a victim on the 500 block of Hibbard reported that someone made a withdrawal from his bank account in Indiana. He also discovered someone had attempted to open numerous credit cards and opened a Sprint account with 4 telephone numbers attached using his personal information.

A victim on the 100 block of 17th Street reported he received a statement from TCF Bank between Feb. 6 and Feb. 24. He said he was home from college and did not have a current account with TCF bank, and the account statement he received had the apparent name of an woman he said he did not know.

BURGLARY

Sometime on March 1 between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., a resident of the 300 block of Beverly said someone broke a window on a side door to gain entry. Once inside, the burglar or burglars stole jewelry, cameras and foreign currency.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO PROPERTY

Sometime between 9:00 p.m. Feb. 28 and 4:30 a.m. March 1, a resident reported someone used a crowbar to break out the rear window of his parked motor home on the 400 block of Park.
