Wilmette Dog Owner Cited Over Leaving Pair Of Pooches In Hot Car

A 52-year-old Wilmette man was cited for allegedly leaving two dogs in a hot car in a Joliet parking lot Tuesday.

WILMETTE, IL — A Wilmette man has been cited for animal cruelty after police said he left a pair of dogs inside a parked car Tuesday. Joliet police were called to a parking garage around 9:30 a.m., where the two had allegedly been left inside a parked car for about an hour while the temperature was 81 degrees. Police said the windows were closed and the dogs had no outside ventilation.

Richard P. Broderick, 52, of the 2000 block of Lake Avenue in Wilmette, was eventually located by officers, who issued him a $300 citation for cruelty to animals, according to police.

Joliet police issued another citation for leaving a dog in an unattended vehicle in a Walmart parking lot Thursday. Police said a 65-year-old Will County man had only cracked the window open two inches.
