Wilmette Obituary: Michael "Mike" S. Abroe, 72
Visitation is Thursday and funeral Friday, both in Skokie.

Michael “Mike” S. Abroe, 72, of Wilmette. Beloved husband of Mary Abroe nee Munsell; loving father of Mary Elizabeth “Betsy” (Billy McEacharn) Abroe and Matthew (Rebecca) Abroe ; proud grandfather of Hannah, Eloise and Penelope Abroe and Shane McEacharn; dear brother of Susan (the late Ron) Pringle, Barbara (Ronald) Ring and Robert Abroe; brother-in-law of John “Jay” (Pamela) Munsell and Jane (Denny) Weese; caring uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Mike was a principal and consulting actuary for over 25 years with Milliman, Inc. He founded its Chicago individual health practice in 1985, after serving as vice president and health actuary for Bankers Life & Casualty Company for 19 years. Mike was a very knowledgeable actuary and successful consultant and was consistently sought after for his assistance by many health insurers. He was also very active in the affairs of the actuarial profession. He was an active member of the Society of Actuaries and the American Academy of Actuaries, and served on numerous professional committees over the years, including chairman of the Health Practice Council for the Academy and most recently as a member of the Actuarial Standards Board (ASB) and chairman of the ASB General Committee, the organization that sets national standards with which all accredited actuaries need to comply. In 2011 Mike was selected as the American Academy of Actuaries Farley Award winner, the Academy’s highest recognition for service to the actuarial profession. He was also appointed as the sole actuarial member of the national Institute of Medicine’s task force to recommend to the President which health care services should be covered by health plans, as required under the new Affordable Care Act (Obamacare).
Visitation Thursday, February 12, 2015 3:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. , Funeral service Friday, February 13, 2015 10:00 a.m. at Donnellan Family Funeral Home, 10045 Skokie Blvd. at Old Orchard Rd. Skokie.
Interment All Saints Cemetery Des Plaines.
