Village Treasure House in Glenview

Who would have thought that a small brick building down a narrow street in a commercial district would house a . . . Treasure House? I never knew this place existed, never heard of it, never knew anybody else that knew about it. But then my mother-in-law, an interior designer, happened to mention it.

I couldn't find it the first time. Up and down the street, straining to see the numbers on the buildings, I fully believed I was in the wrong part of town. But yes, there it was, an unprepossessing storefront surrounded by other squat commercial buildings.

Don't judge a book by its cover, right? I was so glad I didn't! This little diamond in the rough is two rooms filled with consignment items that automatically drop in price about every two weeks. But why wait - the prices are excellent and there are new items every time I visit. Waiting for the price to drop cost me on a beautiful set of Franciscan Ware painted wine glasses. They were gone when I went in two weeks later.

The Village Treasure House is a consignment shop that also takes donations of upscale and vintage furniture and home furnishings. "All proceeds support local agencies serving women and families in crisis" is written on the front of their brochure. Great stuff at great prices and it goes for a good cause. The staff is all-volunteer.

They sell furniture, home accessories, crystal, silver, rugs, artwork, lamps, and chandeliers.
The Village Treasure House has donated over $1 million dollars since they opened in 1998! Help them by shopping there, telling your friends, or donating your own items.
