No one was home but the dogs when a fire at an upstairs unit filled an apartment building with smoke Friday morning.

GLENCOE, IL — Two dogs were rescued from a smoke-filled apartment building Friday morning in Glencoe after their owner's unit caught fire, authorities said.
Emergency responders were dispatched around 11:30 a.m. for a report that smoke was coming out of a building in the 300 block of Hazel Avenue, the Glencoe Department of Public Safety announced.
Firefighters traced the smoke to an apartment on the third floor, forced open the door and quickly extinguished the fire. No one was home, other than two dogs, at the time of the fire, according to Deputy Chief Rich Weiner.
