The following information comes from the Glencoe, Northfield, Wilmette and Winnetka police departments as a record of police activity and incidents reported to the police. Criminal charges represent merely accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Anyone arrested is innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

  • Someone managed to take control of the bank account of a resident of Old Elm Place, taking control of more than $500 at some point prior to 9 a.m. on April 15.
  • Four Glencoe residents reported receiving identical emails from a scammer between April 27 and May 12. The scam emails claim to have pornographic videos of the residents as well as their passwords. The scam emails demanded $2,000 in cryptocurrency, threatening to send the video to all the contacts in the resident's accounts.

FORGERY
A resident in the 600 block of Vernon Avenue reported around 11 a.m. on May 7 that someone intercepted and cashed one of their checks in the mail worth more than $5,000.

CAR THEFT
Someone burglarized a Jeep and stole a Chevy SUV from the 300 block of Greenleaf Avenue, police were told around 10 a.m. on May 10.

CAR BURGLARIES

  • A resident in the 300 block of Lake Street reported that around 3:15 a.m. on May 10, people from two cars entered their unlocked Audi but did not steal anything. The burglars fled when the resident came outside, police were told.
  • Someone got into an unlocked BMW in the 500 block of Drexel Avenue, stealing keys and a phone charger from inside prior to 4 a.m. on May 10.

THEFTS

  • Someone stole an unlocked bicycle worth $400 from the 700 block of Old Green Bay Road prior to 3 p.m. on April 28.
  • Two unidentified men or boys stole two back-mounted leaf blowers that had been left unattended in a yard in the 100 block of Scott Avenue.
  • Someone stole a package delivered to the front door of a home in the 200 block of Franklin Avenue prior to 12:30 p.m. on May 6.
  • Someone stole a package from the 500 block of Drexel Avenue prior to 6 a.m. on May 10 but abandoned it upon the arrival of police, who returned it to the owner.

IDENTITY THEFTS

  • Someone used the identity of a Woodlawn Avenue resident to file a false tax return with the Internal Revenue Service prior to 6 p.m. on April 16.
  • Someone made an unauthorized change to the listed address of a Longwood Avenue resident with the Social Security Administration prior to 9 p.m. on April 27.
  • An Oak Ridge Drive resident reported learning that someone had opened an account with Charter Communications using their identity after getting a call from a collections agency.
  • A Park Avenue resident reported someone used their identity to open up a Wells Fargo credit card, request a check from their line of credit and open a brokerage account prior to 3:30 p.m. on May 4.
  • Someone used the identity of a Woodlawn Avenue resident to open a Verizon Wireless account and buy three phones prior to 4 p.m. on May 6.
  • Someone gained access to the bank account of an Oak Ridge Drive resident prior to 12:30 p.m. on May 7 and tried to move money into their account, but no funds were transferred.
  • An Oak Ridge Drive resident's identity was used to open a department store credit card and charge around $500 prior to 4 p.m. on May .
  • Someone used the identity of an Orchard Lane resident to open an AT&T account and buy an iPhone prior to 6 p.m. on May 8.

ARRESTS

Henryk Rege, 63, of the 4200 block of North Marmora Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 11:30 a.m. on May 5 in the area of Vernon and Washington avenues and charged with leaving the scene of a traffic crash and driving with a revoked license. He was also issued a citation for disregarding a stop sign.

NORTHFIELD

INCIDENTS

CAR BURGLARY
Someone burglarized two cars in a driveway in the 300 block of Latrobe Avenue during the night of April 13 or early morning hours of April 14.

ANIMAL BITE
A resident in the 1600 block of Mt. Pleasant Street reported around 3 p.m. on April 18 that a neighbor's dog had bit them and their dog. Police documented the incident.

IDENTITY THEFT
Someone used the identity of a Fox Meadow Drive resident to make unauthorized charges at a bank prior to 1:30 p.m. on April 22.

SUSPICIOUS EMAIL
An Eaton Street resident reported on the morning of April 23 that they had gotten a scam email threatening to release explicit photos if they were not provided with $2,000 worth of a cryptocurrency. Residents of nearby towns reported receiving identical emails.

UNWANTED STICKER
A Northbrook resident reported around 1:30 p.m. on April 27 that someone had placed a Donald Trump bumper sticker on their car without their permission while it was parked in the 300 block of South Happ Road.

GARBAGE DISPUTE
A resident in the 300 block of Jeffrey Street reported prior to 3 p.m. on April 27 that a neighbor had been moving garbage cans without permission.

SUSPICIOUS CAR
Police were called to the 400 block of Wagner Road for a report of suspicious person in the area around 11:15 p.m. on April 27. Officers spoke to the driver and learned they were waiting to meet a friend.

FRAUD
An Arbor Lane resident reported around 3:45 p.m. on April 30 that there had been several unauthorized withdrawals from their account.

OBSCENE GESTURE
A resident of the 300 block of Jeffrey Street reported around 3 p.m. on May 7 that a neighbor made an obscene gesture and swore at them.

CAR THEFT/GARAGE BURGLARY
A resident in the first block of Coventry Road reported around 6:45 a.m. on May 9 that someone stole a Honda from an attacked garage during the prior night. A car in a nearby driveway was also burglarized during the same night.

ARRESTS

Rodridgo Vanegas, 29, of the 7400 block of North Damen Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 5:45 p.m on April 26 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving with a revoked licenses and damage to village property following a one-car traffic crash in the 400 block of Central Avenue that damaged a lamp post and roadway median. He was also issued citations for operating an uninsured motor vehicle and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Carl J. Scheeler, 43, of the 1800 block of Bosworth Lane, Northfield, was arrested around 8:45 a.m. on May 1 on a DuPage County obstructing a court order warrant.

Robert S. Clingan, 50, of the 500 block of Valley Way, Northfield, was arrested around 4:15 a.m. on May 3 and charged with domestic battery following an incident at his home.

A 21-year-old Beach Park woman was arrested around 6 a.m. on May 9 and charged with driving without a valid license and operating an uninsured motor vehicle following a traffic stop in the 500 block of West Frontage Road.


WILMETTE

INCIDENTS

CAR THEFT
Someone stole a Mazda from the 700 block of Washington Avenue between 9 a.m. April 14 and 7:20 a.m. April 15. It appeared the keys had been left inside. Chicago police reported on April 28 that officers had found the stolen car abandoned in the 3600 block of South Iron Street.

ACCOUNT HIJACKING
A Schiller Avenue resident reported that someone changed their account information in an electronic payment application and made two electronic transfers into the account worth a combined $199 between April 4 and April 6.

COMPUTER SCAM
A Schiller Avenue resident and a Lake Avenue resident reported on April 22 that someone had sent them an email threatening to send explicit information to their contacts.

IDENTITY THEFT
An Iroquis Road resident reported on the morning of April 22 that someone compromised their Social Security number in January and in March tried to transfer funds between PayPal and their checking account.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Someone reported the passenger side mirror of their car was damaged while parked in a driveway in the 600 block of Lawler Avenue between 1 and 5 p.m. on April 22.

GARAGE BURGLARY
A resident in the 100 block of Millbrook Lane reported that someone stole a safe from their garage at some point between Feb. 2 and April 22.

SHOPLIFTING
Three men or boys stole unspecified items from the Walgreens in the 800 block of Green Bay Road around 3 p.m. on April 29.

JEWELRY THEFT
Someone stole a mink coat and a gold, diamond-encrusted bracelet from the closet of a Sheridan Road resident at some point prior to May 10, police were told.

PACKAGE THEFT
A resident in the 600 block of 20th Street reported on May 10 that someone had stolen a recently delivered package from their front porch.

CAR BURGLARIES

  • A resident in the 200 block of 3rd Street reported that someone got into their car and stole cash between 6 p.m. on April 24 and 2:30 p.m. on April 25.
  • Someone broke into a car in the 400 block of Linden Avenue through a window and stole a wallet that had been left in the center console at some point between 9 p.m. April 25 and 4 p.m. April 26.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

  • A resident in the 3000 block of Gregory Avenue reported finding multiple dents and paint chips on their Lexus on the morning of May 4.
  • A resident in the 200 block of Broadway Avenue reported that someone left a 2-foot scratch on their Volkswagen while it was parked in a driveway.

BB GUN SPREE
Police said the following seven incidents of criminal damage were reported between 10 p.m. on May 6 and 7 a.m. on May 7:

  • Two cars' windows were shattered by BBs in the 400 block of Skokie Boulevard.
  • The north entrance door to the Wilmette Rec Center, 3000 Glenview Road, was broken with a BB.
  • Windows were shattered on a pair of parked cars in the 2900 block of Wilmette Avenue.
  • A BB damaged the rear window of a car parked in the 500 block of Knox Avenue.
  • The rear driver's side window of a car parked in the 200 block of Valley View Drive was shattered.

ARRESTS

Juan Antonio Hernandez Jr., 48, of the 3300 block of 22nd Avenue, Kenosha, Wisconsin, was arrested just after midnight on May 2 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater following a traffic crash where someone drove a car off the road. Hernandez failed field sobriety tests and was taken into custody, where he produced a breath sample indicating he was impaired by alcohol.

[Name Removed], 46, of Northfield, was arrested around 4:30 p.m. on May 8 and charged with battery after police got a report he was battering a person in their driveway on Millbrook Lane. Police reported [Name Removed] fled to his Northfield home, where he was arrested.

Joseph Norman, 54, of the 300 block of Ridge Road, Wilmette, was arrested and charged with attempted battery after a resident reported that he berated them and threw a hunk of asphalt at them at his apartment building.


WINNETKA

INCIDENTS

CHECK SCAM
An Edgewood Lane resident reported someone sent them a fraudulent check for an online purchase on April 5. The amount of loss was unknown at the time of the report.

CAR BURGLARY
Someone damaged the rear window of a car parked in the 500 block of Lincoln Avenue between 6 p.m. April 11 and noon April 12. The repair costs were unknown and nothing was listed as stolen at the time of the report.

BIKE THEFT
Someone stole an unlocked mountain bike worth $300 from the bike rack in a locked parking garage in the 900 block of Green Bay Road between noon on April 19 and 1:45 p.m. on April 21.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
A park district employee discovered someone damaged and brokee off three wood fence posts and burned them in the nearby fire pit in Crow Island Woods, 1140 Willow Road, between midnight on April 19 and 9:30 a.m. on April 22, causing $70 in damage.

RETAIL THEFT
An employee at Walgreens, 925 Green Bay Road, reported discovering on store security footage that two unidentified people had stolen about $87 worth of alcohol from the store at 1:30 p.m on April 26.

HOME BURGLARY
A resident in the 1000 block of Tower Road reported someone got into their home and stole a safe with jewelry, documents and cash inside for a loss of more than $5,000. Police reported there were no signs of forced entry.

VANDALISM
An employee at New Trier High School discovered that someone damaged a school banner between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on May 6. The repair costs were not known at the time of the report.

IDENTITY THEFTS

  • Someone used the identity of someone on Winnetka Avenue to open up a satellite television account and accrue over $1,100 in charges between September 2018 and January 2019.
  • Someone used the identity of an Elder Lane resident to gain access to their credit card account information, change their mailing address and make an unknown amount of unauthorized purchases between April 18 and April 23.
  • A Vine Street resident reported that someone used their identity to open a Best Buy credit card account and make more than $5,000 in unauthorized purchase between October 2018 and May 7.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Laurence A. Daveney, 73, of the 500 block of Hill Terrace, Winnetka, was issued a disorderly conduct citation around 4 p.m. on April 20 at Church and Meadow roads after police received a report that he made inappropriate comments to pedestrians.

Joseph J. McAtamney, 20, of the 600 block of Spruce Street, Winnetka, was issued a citation for retail theft after officers got a report that he was in the process of stealing nine containers of alcohol from the Grant Food Center, 6060 Green Bay Road, shortly before 8 a.m. on April 24.
