GLENCOE, IL — Glencoe police tracked and arrested a group of suspects believed to be involved in several recent residential burglaries in the north suburbs.

According to the Glencoe Public Safety Department, local authorities and the North Regional Major Crimes Task Force conducted surveillance on several suspects on May 1. Authorities believed the individuals had committed residential burglaries in several nearby municipalities.

Detectives conducting surveillance witnessed a group of individuals entering Glencoe in a vehicle, and some time later, a burglary alarm was tripped at a home on Lakewood Drive.

Officers responded to the home after 9:40 p.m. to find that one of its side windows had been broken. Through the use of a drone, officers saw a suspect fleeing into the ravines. Another person who stayed inside the suspect vehicle was taken into custody.

Numerous surrounding agencies assisted in locating the suspect who fled, using police canines, a drone and a Cook County Sheriff helicopter. According to authorities, the man had traversed through a ravine system and hid in a wooded area before fleeing into Highland Park.

Once in Highland Park, he was picked up by a third suspect who police were also surveilling. They were both tracked back to a residence in North Chicago, where they were arrested around 4:10 a.m.

The Cook County State's Attorney's Office reviewed the case and approved charges of residential burglary, possession of burglary tools and resisting a police officer against two suspects, Nicholas Bravo-Umanzor, 33, of North Chicago, and Howard Montes-Reys, 22, of Round Lake Beach.

One individual was released without charges pending further investigation.

These arrests come amid local concerns about a recent violent home invasion in Winnetka. Seven suspects believed to be involved in the Winnetka incident have been arrested and charged by federal authorities.

Glencoe officials said this case is not connected to the Winnetka incident.
