Family Service of Glencoe announces the introduction of a support group for single moms facilitated by Beth Jerva, its newest licensed clinical social worker. The group will provide a nurturing and informational environment for women seeking support around the unique challenges experienced when single parenting.
The group will meet every two weeks from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesdays beginning Sept. 25 at the Takiff Center, 999 Green Bay Road. Subsequent sessions will take place Oct. 9 and 23, Nov. 6 and 20, and Dec. 4. The first two sessions will be open to all women interested in the group with the session closing to provide a more intimate group of only the initial participants for the last four meetings. FSG will keep an ongoing list of women interested in the group so that they can be notified upon the start of new groups.
“Parenting on your own can be stressful and affect both mental and physical health," said Jerva. “Receiving therapeutic guidance and support from women who are dealing with similar issues is helpful, healing and empowering."
