The Glencoe Public Library Board of Trustees has appointed Juliann Janovicz as executive director of the Glencoe Public Library effective June 3, 2013. Currently the assistant director of the Winnetka-Northfield Public Library District, Ms. Janovicz succeeds Peggy Hamil, who has served as executive director since 1994.
“The trustees were very impressed with Juli’s administrative expertise as well as her enthusiasm for providing an exciting array of public library services,” said Glencoe Library Board president Judy Zager. Ms. Janovicz’s personal approach also played a part in her selection. “In a smaller library such as ours, it is very
important that the executive director not only fully understands all library operations but also enjoys getting to know the library’s patrons,” said Ms. Zager.

After earning a master’s degree in library and information science from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 1985, Ms. Janovicz began her career with positions at the Kenosha Public Library and Zion-Benton Public Library. In 1989, she joined the Winnetka-Northfield Library as head of reference and was promoted in 1998 to head of adult
services. In 2011, she was named assistant director. Ms. Janovicz has also served as interim director in 2011 and 2012-2013.
“I’m delighted to join the library, which because of its
personable and helpful staff, dedicated trustees, and capable director, is known as the jewel of Glencoe,” said Ms. Janowicz. “I look forward to continuing their tradition of excellence and leading the library into the future.”

“I’m passionate about people. For me, the opportunity to work closely with community members is one of the best things about small libraries,” she added.
Following Ms. Hamil’s announcement last fall of her
impending retirement, the library engaged a professional consultant to manage the search for her successor. The residents of Glencoe are invited to a farewell reception for Ms. Hamil on Sunday, May 19, at 4:00 p.m. at the library.
