‘Architecturally Significant’ Glencoe Homes Proposed for Demolition
Bayit Builders has proposals to demolish homes on Bluff Street, Fairview Road.

GLENCOE, IL - A Chicago-based residential construction company has proposed to demolish two historic homes in Glencoe, one of them that is more than 100 years old.
Bayit Builders, described on its website as “a cutting edge, high-end commercial and residential construction company,” has plans to demolish the homes at 854 Bluff Street and 190 Fairview Road, according to a village memo.
The Harry A. Peters home at 854 Bluff Street is an “arts-and-crafts” style home built in 1914. The Charles B. Stumes home at 190 Fairview Road was designed by S.S. Beman and built in 1924.
“Both homes to be demolished are architecturally significant and have been identified as such dating back to the Village’s first historic architectural survey completed in 1985,” the village memo states.

Village commissioners plan to meet with a representative of the company at their Jan. 3, 2017 meeting.
