Arrests Over String Of Car Burglaries: Winnetka Crime

WINNETKA, IL — The following information comes from the Winnetka Police Department as a record of police activity and of incidents reported to the police. Readers are reminded than an arrest is not an indication of guilt and criminal charges, which are often dropped or reduced, merely represent accusations by the state. Everyone is innocent unless their guilt is established beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

CAR BURGLARY

At 4:45 p.m. on May 7, a victim discovered between 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. on May 7, someone removed the victim’s purse from an unsecured vehicle on the 700 block of Sheridan Road. The purse contained a wallet with miscellaneous credit cards. The reported loss was $500.

CRIMINAL DEFACEMENT

Shortly before 3 p.m. on May 7, an officer found two juveniles who matched the description of a report that two kids had been spray painting the north and south walls of the underpass area around the 300 block of Green Bay Road. Both juveniles, aged 13 and 14, are residents of the New Trier Township Area and were cited for criminal defacement.

SPEEDING

A 21-year-old woman, of the 6400 block of North Ridge Boulevard in Chicago, was arrested for speeding more than 40 mph over the limit at 2:13 p.m. on May 4 in the 600 block of Sheridan Road.

CAR BURGLARY

Someone broke into a locked vehicle in a driveway in the 900 block of Forest Glen Drive sometime between 5 p.m. on May 7 and 8:10 a.m. on May 8. The thieves made off with an iPod Touch and an i-Pass for a loss of $250.

CRIMINAL TRESPASS

Someone entered an unlocked vehicle in a driveway in the 900 block of Forest Glen Drive and rummaged through its contents between 4:30 p.m. on May 7 and 8:03 a.m. on May 8. There was no immediate reported loss.

Someone reportedly rummaged through another unlocked vehicle in a driveway in the 900 block of Forest Glen Drive between 4 p.m. May 7 and 7:45 a.m. May 8. There was no immediate reported loss.

CRIMINAL TRESPASS

Someone entered a vehicle parked on the street in the 1300 block of Asbury Avenue between 12:00 p.m. on May 7 and 6:27 a.m. on May 8 and rummaged through its contents. There was no immediate reported loss.

THEFT

Someone stole a bicycle locked with a cable lock from the bike rack at New Trier High School between 7:20 a.m. on May 3 and 3:20 p.m. on May 8 for a loss of $400.

THEFT OF MOTOR VEHICLE

On the morning of May 8, a victim on the 1300 block of Ashbury Avenue discovered that someone had rummaged through several vehicles parked in the drive and stole a vehicle that had the keys located inside for a loss exceeding $10,000.

MAY 9 ARRESTS

Lorenzo Robert Wimberly, 22, of the 1700 block of North Golf Road in Waukegan, was arrested May 9 at 3:15 a.m. for unlawful possession of a stolen motor vehicle, aggravated unlawful possession of a stolen motor vehicle, aggravated fleeing and eluding, driving 35 mph over the posted limit, disregarding a stop sign and burglary to a motor vehicle.

Taylor Sterling-Davis, 20, from the 2500 block of Victor Avenue in Glenview, was arrested for possession of cannabis May 9 at 3:15 a.m.

CAR BURGLARY

A victim discovered between 3 p.m. on May 7 and 4:26 p.m. on May 9, someone had entered an unlocked vehicle parked in a driveway of the 300 block of Poplar Street and rummaged through its contents. There was no immediate loss reported.

A victim discovered between 12 p.m. on May 7 and 4:22 p.m. on May 9, someone entered an unlocked vehicle parked in a driveway of the 300 block of Popular Street and removed a pair of Roberto Cavalli sunglasses and case for a reported loss of $300.

CAR BURGLARY

A victim discovered that between 12:39 a.m. and 12:45 a.m. on May 9, someone entered an unlocked vehicle parked in a driveway of the 800 block of Oak Street and rummaged through its contents. There was no immediate loss reported.

CAR BURGLARY

A victim discovered that someone had rummaged through an unlocked vehicle in a driveway of the 500 block of Provident Avenue between 5 p.m. on May 7 and 9:14 a.m. on May 9. There was no immediate loss reported.

CAR BURGLARY

A victim discovered someone had entered an unlocked vehicle parked in a driveway on the 900 block of Oak Street between 9 p.m. on May 8 and 6:50 a.m. on May 9 and rummaged through its contents. There was no immediate reported loss.

IDENTITY THEFT

On May 9, a victim reported that someone used their personal identifiers to open up a Kohl’s store credit card account between 12 p.m. on May 5 and 12 p.m. on May 9. There was no reported loss.

IDENTITY THEFT

On May 11, a victim reported that someone had used their personal identifiers to open up several Comcast accounts between October and December of 2016 for a reported loss of $181.40.

THEFT

On May 12 at 9:51 a.m. a victim at New Trier High School discovered that someone had broken into a locker and stolen an iPhone 7 and cash from a backpack between 1:15 p.m. and 1:55 p.m. on May 11. The reported loss was $730.

IDENTITY THEFT

On May 13, a victim discovered that between 12 p.m. on May 11 and 3:30 p.m. on May 12, someone had used their personal identifiers and forged their signature on an application to open a Clearent Business account. There was no reported loss.

IDENTITY THEFT

On May 14, a victim reported that at 12:08 p.m. someone had attempted to use their credit card to make several unauthorized purchases. There was no reported loss at this time.

THEFT

On May 14, a victim discovered that at 11:45 a.m. that day, someone stole a metal toolbox from the parkway in the 600 block of Lincoln Avenue for a reported loss of $40.
