Bob Bergman, Well Known Winnetka Man, Dies
The community "fixture" was found dead at his residence on June 6.

Bob Bergman, a well known Winnetka resident known locally as “Mayor Bob” passed away over the weekend at age 54.
Bergman was found deceased at his residence on Saturday, June 6 by a family member after he did not show up for his job at Jos. A. Bank in the village’s Hubbard Woods neighborhood, according to the Winnetka Talk. The cause of death is still unknown.

Bergman became a “fixture” across the North Shore after suffering a brain injury shortly after graduating from New Trier High School.
Bergman was well-known around town from years working at Fell Co. clothing store, Voss-Sanders Bootery, Grand Foods, Mariano’s in Northfield and most recently, Jos. A. Bank.

Friends have shared numerous memories of him, including how he could remember clothing and shoe sizes for many regular customers while working at the aforementioned shoe stores.
“There is never going to be another Bob,” Maureen Valvassori of Glencoe, a longtime friend, told the Talk. “He was a very unique and loving person. He maybe did not meet the North Shore definition of success, but in my mind, he was one of the most successful people I’ve ever known. Everywhere he went, he brought good.”
