The Book Stall welcomes a poetry reading with Carrie Olivia Adams, Teresa&nbsp;Dzieglewicz, and Naoko Fujimoto, in honor of Ms. Fujimoto's release of her new book of Women: 20 Japanese Female Poets. Of Women is a collection of translations of Japanese waka-poems from the seventh century to the twelfth century, featuring twenty female poets from this period, when Japanese women’s literature flourished. This book includes poems by famous writers from the era, such as Sei Shonagon (The Pillow Book) and Murasaki Shikibu (The Tale of Genji), and introduces some lesser-known female poets as well.&nbsp;Carrie Olivia Adams will share poems from her newest book of poetry, The Book of Marys and Glaciers. Teresa Dzieglewicz will read from her book of poetry, Something Small of How to See a River.
Naoko Fujimoto was born and raised in Nagoya, Japan. She is a poet and translator. Her poetry collections are We Face The Tremendous Meat On The Teppan, winner of C&amp;R Press Summer Tide Pool Chapbook Award, Where I Was Born, winner of the Willow Books Editor's Choice, Glyph: Graphic Poetry=Trans. Sensory, and five chapbooks. She is a RHINO Poetry and Tupelo Quarterly translation editor. She is a Bread Loaf Translation full scholarship recipient and the 2023 Visiting Teaching Artist at the Poetry Foundation.&nbsp;
Carrie Olivia Adams lives in Chicago, where she is the executive editor for the nonprofit press Black Ocean and the promotions and marketing communications director for the University of Chicago Press. Her books include&nbsp;The Book of Marys and Glaciers,&nbsp;Be the thing of memory,&nbsp;Operating Theater,&nbsp;Forty-One Jane Doe’s, and&nbsp;Intervening Absence in addition to the chapbooks “Proficiency Badges,” “Grapple,” “Overture in the Key of F,” and “A Useless Window.” She writes the&nbsp;<a href="https://poetryandbiscuits.substack.com/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">“Poetry &amp; Biscuits” newsletter&nbsp;</a>on Substack and curates a house reading series by the same name. Teresa Dzieglewicz is a Pushcart-winning poet, Black Earth Institute Fellow, a Poet-in-Residence at the Chicago Poetry Center, and part of the founding team of Mni Wichoni Nakicizin Wounspe (Defenders of the Water School). Her first book of poetry, Something Small of How to See a River was selected by Tyehimba Jess for Tupelo Press’s Dorset Prize. Her first children's book, Belonging, (co-written with Kimimila Locke), is forthcoming from Chronicle Books. She has received prizes or fellowships from Best New Poets, the Gingko Prize, the Auburn Witness Prize, the Palette Poetry Prize and the Elizabeth George Foundation.

In addition to writing, Martha is an instructor of creative writing at Stanford University’s Continuing Studies Program. She received her BA from Vassar College in History and English, and her MA in Creative Writing from San Francisco State University. Art in the Village, sponsored by the North Shore Art League will take place at Hubbard Woods Park (939 Green Bay Road) in Winnetka on June 13th and 14th from 10 am – 5 pm. NSAL, the 101 year old arts organization located in the historic Community House, Winnetka is proud to promote this annual juried art show. The park is a beautiful setting for a summer art fair - in the middle of the Village’s Hubbard Woods Design District. This boutique exhibition will <a tabindex="-1" href="https://null" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank"></a>feature artists from across the country showcasing their work, including oil paintings, mixed media, photography, sculpture, and more. As an added attraction, on both Saturday and Sunday, NSAL faculty member and portrait artist Lisa DePinto will be on-site to paint quick oil portraits. We hope to see you there!

Jen Cullerton Johnson will be reading her book, Seeds of Change: Planting a Path to Peace, a picture book biography of scientist Wangari Maathai, the first African woman--and first environmentalist--to win a Nobel Peace Prize (in 2004) for her work planting trees in her native Kenya.
Margot Dallas grew up in a suburb of Chicago and spent her summers in the rolling hills of Wisconsin. She filled her days immersed in nature, observing the cycles of plants, animals and their habitats. Margot’s passion for nature continued as she majored in biology in college and earned a Master of Science in Microbiology/Molecular Biology. After graduating college, she pursued a career as a research scientist. One of her most favorite and endearing memories is the time she spent reading books to her children. She enjoys creating pollinator gardens for beautiful creatures, and finding moments to ‘NESTLE in NATURE.’&nbsp;
Jen Cullerton Johnson, an accomplished writer, educator, and urban environmentalist, is on a mission to inspire the next generation of environmental advocates through the power of storytelling, literacy, and sustainability. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Please attach your poem as a Word document or similar, containing only the poem’s title or “No Title,” and the poem– no identifying personal information. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Alternatively,
 poems may be mailed&nbsp;to the Winnetka Library, c/o Nick Mall, 768 Oak 
St., Winnetka, IL 60093. Typed please, with two pages–one page with your
 name, title of the poem or “No Title,” and phone number. On the second 
page, just the title of the poem or “No Title” and your poem. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Winning entries:&nbsp;Winners
 will be notified by July 25. Prizes will be awarded for First, Second, 
and Third Places. One Honorable Mention will be selected.
&nbsp; &nbsp; Winnetka Author and Poet Charlotte Digregorio will judge the contest. Her latest book, available through the library, is Wondrous Instruction and Advice from Global Poets: How to Write and Publish Moving Poems and Books and Publicize Like a Pro.
