Don’t
be bashful. Enter a short poem – twelve lines maximum– in the
Winnetka-Northfield Library District’s “Short Poem Challenge.” Eligibility: Age 16 and up.
Submission Rules: One
poem per entrant, maximum of twelve lines. The poem must be your own
original work, unpublished in print/online, and it shouldn't have won a
prior contest.
Entries may be submitted to poetry@wnpld.org from June 15 through July 8. In the body of your email, include:
- Your name
- Title of the poem (If the poem has no title, such as a haiku, then write “No Title” and it can be identified by its first line.)
- Your contact information (email address and/or phone number)
Please attach your poem as a Word document or similar, containing only the poem’s title or “No Title,” and the poem– no identifying personal information.
Alternatively,
poems may be mailed to the Winnetka Library, c/o Nick Mall, 768 Oak
St., Winnetka, IL 60093. Typed please, with two pages–one page with your
name, title of the poem or “No Title,” and phone number. On the second
page, just the title of the poem or “No Title” and your poem.
Winning entries: Winners
will be notified by July 25. Prizes will be awarded for First, Second,
and Third Places. One Honorable Mention will be selected.
Winnetka Author and Poet Charlotte Digregorio will judge the contest. Her latest book, available through the library, is Wondrous Instruction and Advice from Global Poets: How to Write and Publish Moving Poems and Books and Publicize Like a Pro.
