The Book Stall

The Book Stall is thrilled to host a discussion with bestselling author Patrick Ryan to celebrate the paperback release of Buckeye, “a glorious sweep of a novel” (Ann Patchett) that weaves the intimate lives of two midwestern families across generations, from World War II to the late twentieth century. Sweeping yet intimate, rich with piercing observation and the warmth that comes from profound understanding of the human spirit, Buckeye captures the universal longing for love and for goodness. Mr. Ryan will be in-conversation with the Book Stall's Robert McDonald.&nbsp;
The ticket price is $22 and includes a copy of the book. Mr. Ryan will be happy to sign his work!
Patrick Ryan is the author of the novel Buckeye. He is also the author of the story collections The Dream Life of Astronauts (named one of the Best Books of the Year by the St. Louis Times-Dispatch, LitHub, Refinery 29, and Electric Literature, and longlisted for The Story Prize) and Send Me. His work has appeared in The Best American Short Stories, the anthology Tales of Two Cities, and elsewhere. The former associate editor of Granta, he is the editor of the literary magazine One Story and lives in New York City.

Each artist’s story captures moments of pain and perseverance, and together their voices form a collective testimony of survival, hope and artistic defiance in the face of devastation. Artificial Intelligence is rapidly changing how we learn, work, create, communicate, and make decisions. Held at the historic Krebs Center for the Humanities, this five-week series offers an accessible introduction to AI while exploring the ethical, social, cultural, and philosophical questions it raises – through demonstrations, discussion, and real-world case studies designed to help participants become informed and thoughtful users of these emerging technologies. Each week will highlight a new topic and begin with a social reception featuring food and refreshments.
Both the educational content and social receptions will offer opportunities to build community, engage with College leadership, and learn more about ongoing campus initiatives.

Held at the newly renovated Glen Rowan House, “Beyond the Melody” is an engaging lecture and live performance series that invites audiences to discover the remarkable artistry and individuality of four distinctive musical voices: the cello, flute, oboe, and a blues band. Each week spotlights a different featured instrument or ensemble, exploring its history, evolution, and role across musical traditions while revealing the fascinating ways it creates sound. The opening and closing sessions will include a social reception featuring food and refreshments prior to class.
