D36 Names New Assistant Principal Of The Skokie School
After 2 years as an administrator in Hoffman Estates, Betty Weir will return in July to the district where her teaching career began.

From Winnetka Public Schools District 36: The Winnetka Public Schools announces that Ms. Betty Weir has been named Assistant Principal at The Skokie School for the 2018-2019 school year. Ms. Weir’s employment begins on July 1, 2018. As Assistant Principal, Ms. Weir will serve as a support to Principal Kelly Tess in meeting the needs of the students, staff, and families at The Skokie School. Ms. Weir returns to the District having previously served as a sixth grade teacher, Teacher on Special Assignment, and Interim Curriculum Coordinator over the course of eight years.
“During the search for an Assistant Principal, it was evident that Ms. Weir stood out among the other candidates. Her instructional leadership, focus on child-centered decision making, and commitment to parent and staff partnerships were evident throughout the process.l,” says Dr. Trisha Kocanda, Superintendent. “Furthermore, Ms. Weir has demonstrated impeccable communication skills.”
Ms. Weir returns to District 36 after serving as Assistant Principal at Lakeview School in Hoffman Estates for two years. She originally began teaching at Language Arts and Social Studies at The Skokie School in 2008 after earning a Masters degree in elementary education from DePaul University. She has a Masters degree in educational leadership from Northeastern Illinois University as well as a B.S. from University of Illinois. “I am honored to return to the District in this new leadership capacity, says Ms. Weir. “ I look forward to collaborating with teachers and families to best support our students to flourish during their middle school years.”
