D36 Will Switch to Full-Day Kindergarten in 2017-18

The board approves the change despite concerns about overcrowding at Crow Island School.

WINNETKA, IL—Winnetka Public Schools District 36 kindergartners will switch from half-day to a full-day term starting with the 2017-18 school year after the board approved the measure last week, the Daily North Shore reported.

The extension means kindergarteners will attend school until 2 p.m., keeping a slightly shorter schedule than other elementary school students who are dismissed at 3:15, according to the report.

The board approved the change despite worries of how it will affect an already-overcrowded Crow Island School, the report stated. Those concerns led to the board creating two temporary classrooms for the 2016-17 school year and adding two modular classrooms for 2017-18, the report added.
