Elderly Driver Crashes SUV Into Glencoe Grocery Store

GLENCOE, IL — An elderly woman trying to park her SUV accidentally drove it up onto the curb and into the corner of a grocery store in Glencoe Friday. The collision shattered glass at the front of the store around 3:30 p.m. but no one inside was injured, and the driver suffered only minor injuries, Pioneer Press reported.

Glencoe Public Safety Deputy Chief Richard Weiner said the driver, an 87-year-old Glencoe resident, was driving a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee and was ticketed for failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Glencoe Public Safety officials said village engineers are working with the owners of the grocery store, Grand Foods at 341 Hazel Ave., to make sure the building is safe.
