Flood-Prone Winnetka Residents Could See Insurance Break

Village's partnership with FEMA could pass incentives down to residents.

A partnership between the village of Winnetka and the Federal Emergency Management Agency may give those living in flood-prone areas a chance to buy discounted flood insurance, the Winnetka Talk reports.

The program is part of the National Flood Insurance Program, which rewards communities with incentives for efforts to reduce flood damage. Winnetka Director of Public Works Steven Saunders said the next step is to identify “repetitive loss properties” - those of which have two or more claims of more than $1,000 paid by the program.
