Fred's Winnetka Service Closes After 43 Years

WINNETKA, IL - Fred’s Winnetka Service, a longtime gas and auto service station on Green Bay Road in Winnetka has closed for good.

The station was a mainstay near the corner of Green Bay Road and Spruce Street for 43 years, but closed this year, according to the Daily North Shore.

But the same service is opening not far away in Northfield.

The DNS reports “Fred’s Northfield Auto Service, Inc.” will open at 469 Sunset Ridge Road under the direction of Mannie Pacheco, who had been the lead mechanic at the classic Fred’s.

Pacheco said he named the new business as a tribute to longtime Fred’s owner Fred Majewski, who died last year. Many of the same employees from the Fred’s in Winnetka will also make the move to the Northfield shop, which will also provide the same services.
