Glencoe Holds Document Destruction Event

Bring up to six boxes of paper for securely shredding Aug. 26.

WINNETKA-GLENCOE, IL - From the Solid Waster Agency of Northern Cook County: On Saturday, August 26, 2017, the Village of Glencoe will host a Document Destruction Event (DDE), sponsored by the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County (SWANCC). The event will be held at the SE Commuter Parking Lot – east of the tracks, from 9:00 a.m. to noon.

SWANCC sponsors Document Destruction Events (DDEs) to assist residents with recycling outdated or sensitive documents. Residents from Glencoe and other SWANCC communities are eligible to participate. However, materials will not be accepted from non-SWANCC residents, businesses, schools, or institutions, and IDs will be checked for verification of residency - http://www.swancc.org/swancc-member-communities.

Acceptable documents can include medical forms, bank statements, personal files and retired tax forms. There is a limit of six (6) file boxes or paper bags, and all plastic, metal clips or binders must be removed. DO NOT bring paper in plastic bags. Plastic is a contaminant, as are photos, slides, and any non-paper items. Workers will remove the paper documents while residents stay in their vehicles. Paper is cross-shredded on site and will be recycled at a mill to make new paper products.

“Every consumer is at risk of identity theft and criminals have gotten very astute at going into garbage cans and recycling bins stealing names, addresses and even bank account numbers”, said Mary Allen, SWANCC’s Recycling and Education Director. “Because of this constant threat, SWANCC wants to assist residents with destroying their personal information, making sure that all shredding is done on site at the host location before being recycled.”
