Halloween Safety Tips From the Village of Glencoe

The village of Glencoe has provided the following tips when it comes to Halloween safety.

- Makeup instead of masks; it’s more comfortable and doesn’t obstruct the vision the masks can.

 Check to ensure that costumes are flame-retardant.

 Wear well-fitting shoes to avoid trips and falls.

 Avoid costumes that drag on the ground.

 Have each child carry or wear something lit, such as a flashlight, glow bracelet or necklace or flashing attire for visibility. At least one person in each group should carry a flashlight.

 Think “practical” over “cute” when picking a trick or treat goody bag or container.

 Review the route for Trick-or-Treating beforehand and set a time when kids should be home. Also, have a plan if your child gets separated from the group. A responsible adult or older teen should accompany each group.

 Only trick or treat at houses that are lit.

 Watch for traffic, obey all traffic signs, look before crossing the street, and never cross between parked cars or in the middle of the block.

Trick-or-Treat hours in Glencoe will be Saturday, October 31 from 2:-5:30 p.m.
