The film, the first of five Home Alone movies, features McAllister being left home alone by his family who is traveling to France. While home alone, McAllister fights off two clueless thieves (Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern) who are trying to burglarize the family home.
The house depicted in the movie is in Winnetka. Other scenes in the John Hughes-written film were also filmed on the North Shore.
