In-Home Tutoring Company to Expand to Chicagoland Area

Tutor Doctor has announced it has signed two deals to begin its services in Chicago's northern suburbs.

Answering the call for students of all ages to receive additional help outside the classroom, Tutor Doctor, the nation’s leading one-on-one in-home private tutoring franchise, has announced it has signed two deals to begin its services in Chicago’s northern suburbs.

The new tutoring company will start assisting students in the towns of Arlington Heights, Deerfield, Highland Park, Lake Forest, Lincolnshire, Winnetka, Wilmette, Buffalo Grove, Prospect Heights, Wheeling, Glencoe, Northbrook, Glenview, Kenilworth, Northfield and Evanston beginning in the first quarter of 2017.

Tutor Doctor starts with an in-depth academic and learning style assessment in order to create a custom program and to find the perfect match between the tutor and student. In addition to working with the students’ current curriculum, Tutor Doctor’s Academic Game Plan focuses on the development of key executive functions, such as organizational skills, time management and task prioritization, to help students become high performers in school and in life. Tutor Doctor also collaborates with the students’ current teacher, while keeping open lines of communication with parents throughout the process.

Local entrepreneurs Krishanthi Ramakrishnan and Pete Ross signed separate agreements to bring Tutor Doctor to northern Illinois. Ramakrishnan will operate her business primarily out of Deerfield, Highland Park, Lake Forest and Lincolnshire, while Ross’ Tutor Doctor business will take on the other Cook and Lake County towns.

Ramakrishnan comes to Tutor Doctor with more than a decade’s worth of experience in the fields of education and customer service, also bringing to the table a Master of Arts in Linguistics while specializing in teaching English to Speakers of other Language (TESOL) from Northeastern Illinois in 2006. She holds a Management Professional Certificate from Northwestern University and has seen the benefit of one-on-one tutoring as a student as well as a tutor.

Ross, meanwhile, was a practicing attorney for 25 years for a pair of Fortune 500 companies and comes from a family of educators – his son, brother, cousin and wife all continue to hold roles in the education field – who help drive his passion for education. He graduated from the Northwestern University School of Law in 1981 and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Illinois in 1977.

“Students in the northern suburbs of Chicago will gain significant value from Tutor Doctor,” Ramakrishnan said. “I look forward to assisting students of any age in achieving their educational goals with programs that are specifically designed to fit the needs of each individual.”

In addition to providing school-age students with tutoring in various subjects, many families also hire Tutor Doctor to help students get ahead and prepare for more advanced challenges, such as honors classes that could help them get into a preferred college or university. With the recent launch of its ACT/SAT Success Program, students now have access to the best one-to-one, in-home test preparation. Tutor Doctor has also proven valuable for the rapidly growing home-schooled population, as well as for seniors wanting to learn technology skills.

“One-to-one tutoring ensures that each student is given the utmost attention and tools for success,” Ross said. “It also provides our tutors the satisfaction of seeing their students’ progress. It is incredibly exciting and rewarding to help students reach their full potential. Tutor Doctor is a natural fit for individuals like Krishanthi and me because it gives us a chance to establish a proven system of success to help students in a state that has not experienced the system yet.”

Tutor Doctor specializes in programs such as X-Skills, where tutors act as guides and help students generate game plans for achieving academic goals, assists in the development of tailors and stylized systems for students. Game plans consist of 11 X-Skills, featuring task initiation and follow through, working memory, sustained attention and inhibition of impulses, among other items. Students who perfect these skills early on will not only have an easier time figuring out strategies for mastering STEM courses and meeting goals in life.

The company helps more than 200,000 people annually and covers more than 500 territories in 15 countries across the world.
