Honor the Legacy of Dr. MLK with Day of Service
All ages, abilities, backgrounds and groups invited to volunteer together
Make Your 2019 MLK Day OFF a day ON of service!
JOIN US ON MLK Day, Monday, January 21: Employees and businesses with the day off, families, school and faith-based service groups: The Volunteer Center, The Kindness Connection and the Winnetka Community House invite individuals and groups of all ages and abilities throughout the North Shore and N.E. Metro Chicago to join them on Martin Luther King Day, Monday, January 21, from1pm – 4pm at The Winnetka Community House,620 Lincoln Avenue, Winnetka. Help over a dozen nonprofits with a wide variety of hands-on projects for the homeless, vets, children and seniors, refugees, animals and more. Projects range from making beaded bracelets for women and children in domestic shelters, valentines for veterans, banner and no-sew blanket making for the homeless, scarves and pet toys, and more. Each year hundreds of people join together and make a difference for every living being – humans and animals.
Important repeat feature again this year – Speak Out and Share your Thoughts! All participants are encouraged to share their perspectives throughout the afternoon behind the microphone about Martin Luther King, civil liberties and how we can unite togetherto achieve equality and understanding. Discuss your thoughts in a respectful, productive and if you'd like, creative manner. Recite something you or another author has prepared or speak or sing extemporaneously. All ages and abilities encouraged to attend and participate. So sleep in and drop by The Winnetka Community House.

Bring your Service groups, friends, your children and grandchildren and make a difference for thousands in need. Hundreds of people from the North Shore and metro Chicago area participate each year on this MLK Day of Service. This is a perfect afternoon to do meaningful service. So sleep in and drop by The Winnetka Community House.
There are no fees or reservations to attend, BUT…All project materials are provided except those wishing to make blankets please bring 4 yards of fleece fabric and fabric scissors.A donation of laundry detergent for the NTT Food Pantry clients, and gently used warm coats and umbrellas for all ages are also welcome for veterans and children and adult refugees.

Since 1960 The Volunteer Center has served as a clearinghouse for volunteers to hundreds of nonprofit organizations in New Trier Township and Northeast Metropolitan Chicago.
