As a leader in the community, Smith has strengthened relationships with townships, social service agencies, and community stakeholders. He has developed new community support programs for children and adults with mental illness, such as The Living Room and Camp Neeka. In addition, he has served on boards in the community, including the Northfield Chamber of Commerce and Glenbrook Hospital Community Advisory Committee.
