Kids Deal, Steal Marijuana; Woman Refuses To Leave Train: Glencoe Crimes

GLENCOE, IL — The following information comes from the Glencoe Department of Public Safety as a record of incidents reported to police. Readers are reminded that an arrest is not an indication of guilt and criminal charges are often dropped or reduced. Everyone is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
INCIDENTS
FRAUD

A resident in the 900 block of Forest Avenue was notified by a bank that there was insufficient funds in the resident's account, police were told on Aug. 17. The resident reviewed account records and learned there were several unauthorized automated clearinghouse debit transactions totaling more than $500. Police did not specify the total reported loss and have not identified a suspect.

On Aug. 18, a resident in the 600 block of Valley Road reported that an unidentified person had tried to open several unauthorized accounts using the residents personal information. One of the attempts was successful and the thief managed to cash an e-check worth more than $500. Police did not specify the total reported loss and the rest of the e-checks were declined.
IDENTITY THEFT
On Aug. 21, a resident of the 200 block of Scott Avenue reported that someone tried to cash an e-check and opened two unauthorized credit card accounts.
THEFT
On the evening of Aug. 23, a resident in the 700 block of Greenwood Avenue reported that someone stole the registration sticker from a vehicle for a loss of more than $100.
STOLEN CAR
On the morning of Aug. 24, a resident in the 100 block of Lapier Street reported that someone stole an unlocked Infiniti that had been left unlocked with the keys inside in a driveway.
CAR BURGLARY
On the morning of Aug. 24, a resident in the 200 block of Scott Avenue reported that someone entered a vehicle that had been left unlocked in the driveway, rummaged through it and took an undetermined amount of cash.
CRIMINAL TRESPASS
On the morning of Aug. 24, a resident in the 100 block of Dell Place reported that someone enetered two unlocked vehicles parked in a driveway and rummaged through them without taking anything.
FRAUD ATTEMPT
A resident of the 1000 block of Elm Ridge Drive reported on Aug. 24 that someone had tried to cash more than $500 worth of fraudulent checks on the resident's account, but they were denied.
CRIMINAL TRESPASS
On the evening of Aug. 24, a resident in the 400 block of Sheridan Road reported that someone entered an unlocked vehicle and rummaged through it but did not take anything.
DECEPTIVE PRACTICES
On the afternoon of Aug. 26, a resident of the 100 block of Maple Hill Road reported that someone conned them into thinking there was an issue with their computer, so the resident bought more than $500 worth of iTunes gift cards and provided their numbers to the scanner. Police did not disclose the reported loss.
THEFT
On the afternoon of Aug. 28, police were informed that someone had stolen a bicycle that had been locked to a rack near the Metra station in the 700 block of Old Green Bay Road.
DECEPTIVE PRACTICES
In the evening of Aug. 28, a resident of the 100 block of Old Green Bay Road reported that someone had convinced them via phone to provide their credit card information. Several e-checks and Amazon coins were purchased before the resident realized it was as scam.
ARRESTS
DUI
Catherine H. Orpett, 63, of the 100 block of Park Avenue, was arrested Aug. 17 at 1:26 p.m. in the block of her residence after Glencoe police received a call that a possibly intoxicated motorist had crashed. Police said the vehicle was located and Orpett was arrested but declined to provide further details.

ROBBERY/DELIVERY OF CANNABIS
Police said that shortly after noon on Aug. 21 two juveniles who were attemptign to sell marijuana to another juvenile in the area of Vernon and Woodlawn avenues decided instead to take money from the other juvenile and fled the area. Police said the juveniles were located, taken into custody and petitioned to juvenile court on robbery and drug dealing charges.
DISORDERLY CONDUCT/TRESPASS/RESISTING
Cierra Latrice Johnson, 23, of the 3200 block of West Fulton Avenue in Chicago, was arerested Aug. 22 at 7:35 a.m. at the Metra station in the 700 block of Green Bay Road. Police said she refused to exit the train "after being disorderly to the conductor" and resisted attempts by an officer to remove her from the train. She was "eventually taken into custody without further incident," police said. Police declined to answer questions about the incident.
OBSTRUCTING IDENTIFICATION
Christian M. Lachapelle, 40, of the 300 block of Green Bay Road, was arrested Aug. 22 at 10:11 a.m. near the intersection of Linden and Jackson avenues and charged with obstructing identification. Police said he "provided false information when questioned," but when police learned his true identity, he was taken into custody without incident. Police did not respond to questions about the incident.
MARIJUANA
A pair of 20-year-old Evanston women were issue citations for possession of under 10 grams of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia on Aug. 26 at 11:09 p.m. in the 100 block of Hawthorn Avenue. Police did not disclose any information about the preceding incident.
