Man Drowns In Lake Michigan Helping Child Who Fell Off Tube: Reports

The man jumped into Lake Michigan to help the child, but went underwater for reasons that have not been determined, the reports said.

WINNETKA, IL — A man drowned in Lake Michigan after jumping in to help children who were tubing Tuesday afternoon, according to reports.

The man, who has not been identified, was boating with a group when he jumped into the lake to help the children, NBC5 Chicago reported.

The boat was pulling three or four children on a tube near Centennial Park Beach when one of the kids fell in the lake, ABC7 Chicago reported.

The man went under water for about a minute, that report said. It was not known what caused him to go under, the reports said.

The man was pulled back onto the boat and people started CPR while he was driven back to shore, the NBC report said.

Firefighters and paramedics took over care and he was taken to Northshore Evanston Hospital, where he later died, the reports said.
