Winnetka, Ill. – Matthew Sloan has been named the fourth head coach in New Trier Boys Cross Country program history. A 2004 New Trier High School graduate, Sloan was hired as a science teacher in 2009. He joined the New Trier Boys Track and Field staff in the spring of 2010 as the Freshman/Sophomore Distance Coach. Later that year, he was hired to Dave Wisner’s Boys Cross Country staff as a sophomore coach. In 2018, Sloan transitioned to the role as an assistant varsity Boys Cross Country and Track and Field coach.

Sloan is excited by the opportunity to share his passion for distance running with his student-athletes while building on the traditions established by past head coaches Ben Almaguer, Doug Chase and Dave Wisner.

“I could not be happier to take charge of one of New Trier’s outstanding varsity sports programs,” Sloan said. “It’s an honor, and more than a bit humbling, to succeed the great coaches who preceded me.”

Matt’s first season at the helm will be autumn 2020. Sloan succeeds Dave Wisner, who was head coach from 2006 to 2019, leading the team to 9 regional championships and 2 sectional championships.
