Mixed Success for Green Wave Football Program for Games on 10/6

TEAM HIGHLIGHTS:  Flyweights

Winnetka’s Green Wave football teams enjoyed two great wins and two disappointing losses on Sunday, October 6th including a great Heavyweight win of 37 – 6 against Buffalo Grove, a Middleweight win against Glenview, and the 4th Grade Wave team beat the Green team in their intra-squad battle.  However, the Lightweights lost to Kenilworth 14-33 and the Flyweights lost to undefeated Lake Forest 12 - 26. 

Perhaps it was the gray chilly October day that knocked the wind out of the Flyweights winning record.  Lake Forest got off to a quick start, scoring on their first play from scrimmage with a 30 yard run.  Capitalizing on strong kicking and blitzing, Lake Forest continued to wear Green Wave down in the second quarter.  Some bright spots for the Green Wave were Jimmy Hoban, who had a nice run on a counter play against an overpursuing defense.  Also strong were QB Ryan Kennedy and Artist Benjamin, who ran a quick reverse to Tommy McAtameny, managing to briefly foil the Lake Forest defense.

Refusing to give up, the Green Wave defensive line stood strong against Lake Forest, causing three fumbles, one of which was recovered.  The second half also saw the Green Wave score twice, one by McAtameny and one by Benjamin.  After attempting to claw their way back, however, Green Wave simply ran out of time and opportunities against a tough opponent.  

Each week the Green Wave program designates a Player of the Week from each team. Notables for the week ending 10/6 include: Will Kane and Nick Artinian from Heavyweights, Carson Kosanovich from Lightweights, Brooks Wimer from Middlweights, Tommy McAtameny from Flyweights, Wyatt Summers from 4th grade Green Team and Casey Scharoff from 4th grade Wave Team.
