More Than A Dozen Cars Burgled, Several Stolen: Winnetka Crimes

WINNETKA, IL — The following information comes from the Winnetka Police Department as a record of police activity. Readers are reminded that an arrest is not an indication of guilt and criminal charges can be dropped or reduced. Everyone is presumed innocent unless they are proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

CAR BURGLARY

A resident in the 800 block of Heather Lane discovered on the morning of July 17 that someone had rummaged through two unlocked vehicles in the resident's driveway and stolen a business checkbook with several checks inside. The reported loss was $15.

A resident in the 1400 block of Tower Road discovered on the morning of July 17 that someone had entered their unlocked vehicle, rummaged through the items inside and stolen a set of keys. The reported loss was $20.

TRESPASS TO VEHICLE

A resident in the 1500 block of Hazel Lane discovered on the morning of July 17 that someone had rummaged through the contents of an unlocked vehicle parked in the resident's driveway. There was no immediate reported loss.

TRESPASS TO VEHICLE

A resident in the 900 block of Greenwood Avenue discovered on the morning of July 17 that someone had rummaged through the inside of an unlocked vehicle parked in a driveway. There was no immediate reported loss.

IDENTITY THEFT

On July 18, a resident in the 1300 block of Westmoor Trail reported that someone had tried to make unauthorized purchases using a Barclay credit card sometime between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. on July 14. There was no immediate reported loss.

MOTOR VEHICLE THEFT

On the morning of July 20, a resident in the 900 block of Ash Street discovered someone had stolen a locked car containing key fobs and golf clubs from the resident's driveway. The vehicle was later located out of state.

BURGLARY TO MOTOR VEHICLE

A resident in the 1100 block of Spruce Street reported that between 3:45 a.m. and 4:10 a.m. on July 20, someone had entered two unlocked vehicles parked in the driveway and removed cash and a cell phone charged. The reported loss was $22.

CRIMINAL TRESPASS TO MOTOR VEHICLE

A resident of the 1000 block of Oak Street reported that someone had entered an unlocked vehicle and rummaged through its contents between 9 p.m. on July 19 and 3:45 a.m. on July 20.

BURGLARY TO MOTOR VEHICLE

A resident in the 1000 block of Spruce Street reported that between 3:45 a.m. and 4:10 a.m. on July 20, someone had entered an unlocked vehicle and stole a Chase debit card and a checkbook. The reported loss was not immediately known.

CRIMINAL TRESPASS TO VEHICLE

A resident in the 400 block of Provident Avenue reported that between 9:45 p.m. on July 19 and 7:30 a.m. on July 20, someone entered an unlocked vehicle and rummaged through its contents. There was no immediate reported loss.

CRIMINAL TRESPASS TO VEHICLE

On the morning of July 20, a resident in the 1000 block of Spruce Street reported that someone entered an unlocked vehicle parked in the driveway during the previous overnight hours. There was no immediate reported loss.

MOTOR VEHICLE THEFT

Someone stole an unlocked car that had its keys left inside from the 1000 block of Spruce Street between 9 p.m. on July 19 and 9 a.m. on July 20.

BURGLARY TO MOTOR VEHICLE

On the morning of July 20, a resident in the 1000 block of Pine Street reported that someone entered unlocked vehicles and removed a black bag and headphones during the previous night for a reported loss of $150.

BURGLARY TO MOTOR VEHICLE

A resident of the 400 block of discovered that someone stole a gold ring and cash from a vehicle sometime between 4:30 p.m. on July 19 and 9:15 a.m. on July 20 for a reported loss of $320.

BURGLARY TO MOTOR VEHICLE

A resident of the 1200 block of Spruce Street discovered on the morning of July 20 that someone had entered an unlocked car during the previous overnight hours and stole keys, cash and a beach pass for a total reported loss of $27.

BURGLARY TO MOTOR VEHICLE

A resident of the 1100 block of Ash Street discovered on the mornign of JKuly 20 that someone had entered an unlocked vehicle and stole a change purse for a reported loss of $15.

CRIMINAL TRESPASS TO VEHICLE

A resident in the 400 block of Glendale Avenue reported that someone entered an unlocked vehicle and rummaged through its contents sometime between 10 p.m. on July 19 and 3 p.m. on July 20.

CRIMINAL DEFACEMENT

Someone used black spray paint to deface the south wall of a pedestrian tunnel in the 200 block of Green Bay Road between 1 a.m. and 1:15 a.m. on July 22, a Winnetka office reported. Public works was notified for removal, which was estimated to cost $100.

ARRESTS

DUI

Giles J. Montpetit, 59, of the 5500 block of Stone Avenue in Portage, Indiana was arrested at 11:12 p.m. on July 18 for driving under the influence of alcohol in the 400 block of Green Bay Road. He was also cited for improper lane usage and improper lighting.

DUI

Doreen S. Larson, 59, o the 1800 block of Birtersweet Lane in Mount Prospect, was arrested at 4:43 p.m. on July 23 near the intersection of Sheridan and Tower roads. She was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. She was also cited for improper turn and improper lane usage.
