Mosquito Control Taking Place On North Shore

Parts of Evanston, Glenview, Kenilworth, Lincolnwood, Northfield, Skokie, Wilmette and Winnetka will be affected Tuesday evening.

NORTHFIELD, IL — The North Shore Mosquito Abatement District announced it will be carrying out targeted adult mosquito control operations in parts of Evanston, Glenview, Kenilworth, Lincolnwood, Northfield, Skokie, Wilmette and Winnetka on Tuesday.

Northfield became the ninth North Shore municipality to test positive for West Nile virus when a batch of mosquitoes, collected last Monday, tested positive in the lab on Thursday.

You can find out how many positive batches have been detected compared to how many samples have been collected in each northern Cook County town on the North Shore Mosquito Abatement District website.

So far this year, positive batches of mosquitoes have also been found in district traps in Evanston, Glenview, Kenilworth, Lincolnwood, Morton Grove, Niles, Northbrook and Skokie.

The district said risk of infection is currently low but virus activity is projected to increase over coming weeks. It reminded residents to eliminate any items from their property that might be holding standing water, as it can provide fertile breeding ground for mosquitoes.
