Mrs. Green’s To Close Winnetka Location After Less Than a Year

Healthy food option bolts Hubbard Woods district.

Mrs. Green’s Neighborhood Market will close its location in the village’s Hubbard Woods district on Monday, Oct. 16, the Daily North Shore first reported. The East Coast-based food chain that specializes in natural and organic food just opened in the village in January.

“While challenges are forcing us to close this store, we want to thank all of our customers and the entire team in Winnetka who treated us like family,” said Pat Brown, CEO of Natural Markets Food Group.

Officials in Winnetka were “surprised” to hear of the store’s closing earlier this month.

“The organization had communicated no intent regarding the store plans, so the Village was surprised to learn of the closure,” according to a news release issued by the village this week. “While the closure is an unfortunate loss for our residents, especially of the Hubbard Woods area, it is clear from recent reports that the store’s ownership has struggled with its stores and this is not the only failure in recent years. We understand the company intends to keep its stores in New York, Connecticut, and New Jersey—focusing on an eastern market.”

A company spokesperson told the Daily North Shore the 45 employees at the Winnetka location will be provided with severance packages, healthcare options and further assistance in transitioning to new opportunities.

The village says it has already been in touch with the building owner and will attempt to “help facilitate the prompt filling of this key commercial location with a new business beneficial to the Winnetka community.”
