New Glencoe Village Trustees Sworn In
Two new members and two incumbents were took the oath of office Thursday.

From the Village of Glencoe: On Thursday, May 16, Village President Lawrence R. Levin administered the oath of office to incumbent Trustees Peter Mulvaney and Jonathan Vree as well as two new members to the Board of Trustees, Joe Halwax and Gary Ruben.
Trustee Halwax, elected in April 2019, replaces Greg Turner, who served on the Village Board from September 2018 to May 2019, completing the term of Trent Cornell who resigned in August 2018 as his family was moving out of the community. Trustee Halwax holds a Master of Business Administration as well as a Bachelor of Science in Finance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He also holds Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) and Chartered Investment Management Analyst (CIMA) designations. He is currently the Managing Director of Institutional Investment Services at Wespath Institutional Investments, a non-profit investment arm of the United Methodist Church.
Trustee Gary Ruben, appointed by President Levin, replaces Dale Thomas who resigned in March, also because he and his wife, former Plan Commission Chairman Caren Thomas, relocated outside of Glencoe. Trustee Ruben most recently served as the President of the District 35 Board of Education. He is currently a Principal in the Real Estate Group at Goldberg Kohn and holds a Juris Doctorate from Harvard University and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Illinois. He also was awarded the Elijah Watt Sells Award on his Certified Public Accountant (CPA) examination, awarded to the top three percent on the examination.

“The Village Board welcomes our newest members whose career experience and skillsets will undoubtedly be put to good use as the Village considers multiple high-level projects in the coming months and years,” said President Levin. “I look forward to working with Trustees Halwax and Ruben, as well as our returning members of the Village Board, as we prepare our community for the next 150 years of success.”
Village Levin also made a number of other appointments to the Village’s various boards and commissions at the May 16 Village Board meeting. Notably, while Greg Turner will no longer serve as a Trustee, he has accepted the position of Public-at-Large representative on the Plan Commission.

“We thank Trustee Turner for his dedication and thoughtful consideration of local issues while on the Village Board,” said President Levin. “We are confident that he will be a tremendous asset on the Plan Commission and are glad that he is continuing his involvement with the Village.”
Turner will be joined on the Plan Commission by other new appointments, including Jim Thompson (Public-at-Large), Peter Van Vechten (Historic Preservation Commission Representative), Dev Mukherjee (District 35 School Board Representative) and Laura Solon (Glencoe Public Library Representative). Dudley Onderdonk (Glencoe Park District Representative), was also re-appointed.
A number of re-appointments were also made to the Sustainability Task Force, which just completed its first three-year cycle as a Village committee. Returning to the Task Force are Chairman Hall Healy, who will continue in his role through September 2019, after which point, Elsabe Schimmelpenninck van der Oye will preside as Chairman. Also returning are Lisa Fremont (Public-at-Large) and Dudley Onderdonk (Glencoe Park District Representative). New appointments include Jennifer Varela (Public-at-Large) and Ashley Kain Silver (District 35 School Board Representative).
