New Service Board for High Schoolers Will Raise Funds for Cancer Research
'Find A Cure' has already begun planning events to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Find A Cure, a new North Shore-area Service Board that will benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, has begun planning events to help support their mission.
The service board, composed of teens from several different area high schools, held its opening meeting at the Takiff Center in August. According to Alison Sierens, a Glencoe mother involved with the project, students expressed interest in serving as part of the various committees within Find A Cure - including recruitment, mission, logistics marketing and finance.
“This service board will be a way for teenagers to help fight cancer, make a difference, do awesome service projects, and gain leadership experience, all while connecting with peers in their community,” said Sirens, a mom of a cancer survivor who is now a healthy 11 year old girl.

Congressman Robert Dold was among those in attendance applauding the students efforts.
A car wash planned at the Takiff Center from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on September 12 will be the first event to support the board.

The group’s next meeting will be on September 27, when they expect to plan events for the rest of the year.
“The nice thing about our board is that while students get really great exposure to fun, creative service projects and well-organized fundraising, it’s not a big time commitment for them,” said Sierens.
