New Trier High School Wins State Science Olympiad

NTHS Science Olympiad squad places first at state championship and earns trip to national finals.

WINNETKA, IL — The New Trier High School Science Olympiad team finished in first place among 50 competing schools at the state championship Saturday, held at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

After earning 92 points, the Trevians were named state champions and earned a bid to the Science Olympiad National Tournament May 20 at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio.

New Trier's team competed in 28 events and won nine first-place medals, two second-place medals, one third-place medal, four fourth-place medals and two fifth-place medals. Stevenson High School finished in second place overall, followed by Neuqua Valley and Hinsdale Central high schools.

Varsity team members include: Yamenah Ambreen, Jason Brickman, Faith Chen, Joseph Farina, Max Fleischer, Angela Lee, Brandon Lee, Jason Lee, Seoho Lee, Ilana Nazari, Asher Noel, Tommy Okun, Edward Seol, Jason Yang and Chelsea Ye.

Competing in trial events were: juniors Bibi Belknap-Fernandez and Allie Caldwell and sophomores Nikolina Milic, Penelope Tir, Samantha Fountain, Yetong Li, Jibriel Saqibuddin and Robert Kukowski.

New Trier's Science Olympiad coaches are Kate Ferraro, Tony Harper, Alex Howe, Chris Klimkiewicz, Harold Slav and Stephanie Valerio.
