New Trier Staffer Stole Over $10,000: Police

NTHS activities assistant charged with theft and misconduct, say Winnetka police.

WINNETKA, IL — A New Trier Township High School activities assistant was charged on Feb. 17 with theft over $10,000, official misconduct and unlawful use of an account number, Winnetka police said.

The employee, Jeanine Brooks, 36, of Chicago, stole the money at some point during the current school year, according to police, who said they were alerted to the theft by school employees.

A search warrant was carried out at Brooks' home Friday, and she was arrested a short time after the search was conducted, according to Winnetka police.

A New Trier High School staffer said Brooks was employed by the school between August of 2016 and last week.

Brooks was responsible for managing financial accounts for clubs and maintaining records for fundraising and extracurricular events, in additional to other duties, in her role as a school activities assistant, according to the job description of her position.

Brooks's bond has been set at $25,000 and she is due back in court Thursday in Skokie.
