New Trier Township Appoints Katherine "Kate" MacNally

The New Trier Township Board of Trustees voted December 14th to appoint Katherine (“Kate”) Casale MacNally to the Board.

MacNally will assume the Trustee seat of John Thomas, also a Winnetkan, who served as a Trustee for five years after decades of civic engagement. Thomas passed away in November after a short illness. MacNally wrote in her application, “I would seek to honor his legacy of service by bringing my energy to the board, helping to unite the Township’s villages, and living a life of service.”

MacNally brings to the Township over a decade of progressively responsible local civic engagement in New Trier, including serving as a member of the Winnetka Zoning Board of Appeals, as a Trustee of the Winnetka-Northfield Public Library District, and as Chairperson of the Winnetka Caucus Council. She earned her juris doctorate and Bachelor of Arts degrees from the University of Chicago. Her steadfast commitment to the mission of New Trier Township was clear in her application. “As we’re coming out of the darkest days of the pandemic (hopefully), we have a unique opportunity to reintroduce the Township to our citizens - what it is, what it does, why it’s important, and how everyone can get involved…. As a Board, we can and should help to foster a sense of community beyond the town lines, so that our neighbors see themselves as not only part of their own Village, but as a valued part of - and responsible for - the greater Township community.”

“We were fortunate to have received a number of extremely impressive applications. The appointment decision was not an easy one and we thank all those who volunteered to serve their Township,” notes Township Supervisor Gail Schnitzer Eisenberg. “MacNally’s combination of passion, analytical thinking, and caring in action makes her well suited to the role of Trustee. In fact, she had been attending Board meetings virtually since the pandemic began, which will make the transition as smooth as possible. We all look forward to working with her to best serve our community.”
