New Trier Township Property Tax Assessments May Now be Appealed to the Cook County Board of Review
Property owners in New Trier Township may appeal their 2017 Property Tax Assessments to the Cook County Board of Review on or before 9/26/17

New Trier Township Assessor, Jan Churchwell, reminded property owners in New Trier Township that they may appeal their 2017 Property Tax Assessments to the Cook County Board of Review on or before September 26th. The final 2017 Property Tax assessment for each property will be used next year (2018) in the determination of the total tax due. As Assessor Churchwell pointed out, “When our homeowners receive their tax bills next year, it will be too late to seek reductions in the assessed value of their property for the tax year. Homeowners have two opportunities each year to contest the assessed value that the Cook County Assessor’s Office placed on their property. The first opportunity was an appeal to the County Assessor for a reduction early in 2017. That opportunity is now closed. The second opportunity is an appeal to the Cook County Board of Review. That opportunity ends on September 26th. Whether you did not appeal previously, or appealed and received no reduction, or appealed and received a reduction but are not satisfied, you can still appeal to the Board of Review.” Ms. Churchwell further stated that Deputy Assessor, Len Shifflett (847-446-8200, lshifflett@newtriertownship.com and she (847-446-8202, jchurchwell@newtriertownship.com) are available from 9:00 to 5:00 Monday through Friday at the Township offices, 739 Elm Street Winnetka, to assist homeowners in filing appeals, filing for applicable exemptions, and resolving other property tax issues. Additional information is available on the Assessor’s page on the Township’s website: www.newtriertownship.com, and residents are encouraged to call or come in anytime.
