North Shore Country Day Mathletes Crowned Regional Champions

North Shore Country Day's math team excelled at the regional competition, earning a spot in the upcoming State Championships.

WINNETKA, IL — North Shore Country Day's math team earned the regional championship title at the Illinois Math Competition.

Twenty-two Raider mathletes traveled to Niles West on Feb. 28 to participate in the regional round. The team secured first place in Region 20 among all 1A teams.

"This was a massive team effort," Don Laackman, the first-year coach for the NSCD math team, said. “They competed individually and in team events, and when the day was done, they succeeded across the board.”

The team's performance included several notable achievements. The individual geometry team earned the highest score across all of Division 1A statewide. Additionally, the team secured multiple event victories in both the freshman/sophomore and junior/senior team competitions.

This strong showing means the NSCD's upper school math team will advance to the State Championships. The state competition is scheduled for April, where the team will compete against other top teams from across Illinois.

Regionally, the team also ranked fourth overall among all 1A teams statewide, which was described as a remarkable accomplishment for the group.
