Northfield Man Shoots Self In Hand, Gets Arrested: Police

The 30-year-old now faces three counts of illegally possessing guns and ammunition.

NORTHFIELD, IL — A Northfield man faces several firearms-related charges after shooting himself in the hand inside his house, police said. Police were called to the 2200 block of Birchwood Lane on Sept. 28 around 2:21 p.m. When they arrived, they found 30-year-old Timothy Sean Haley with a gunshot wound to his left hand.

Haley was taken to hospital, treated and released. Police said his Firearms Owner Identification card had been revoked last year.

After officers were given permission to search his home, they found two 9 mm handguns – a Taurus 709 and a Springfield XDM9 – and NATO 5.56 ammunition, according to Northfield Police.

Just over a week later, Haley turned himself to turn himself in at the Northfield Police Department, where he was processed and released on bond ahead of a Nov. 8 court appearance.

Police said the guns and ammo were removed from Haley's home and put into evidence for safekeeping until they can be legally released to a person with a valid FOID card.
