Northfield Obituary: Sheila Murphy Hulseman, 80

Sheila Murphy Hulseman, 80, of Northfield, died peacefully on Sunday, August 30th, surrounded by her family. Devoted wife of nearly 60 years of Robert Leo Hulseman. Beloved mother of Robert (Betty), Richard (Kelly), Paul (Patrice), Margaret Kovach (Joseph), Joseph (Frances), Jean Kloos (Robert), Thomas (Esteban Diaz), Lawrence (Amanda), Patricia (Brian Abrams), and William. Dear grandmother of Liam Hulseman; Zachary Lucas; Colin, Patrick, Conor, Michael, Sean, Molly, Brendan, Brian, Kathleen, Devitt, Delia, Emmett & Aidan Hulseman; Kaitlin, Elizabeth, Greta & Joseph Kovach; Kathryn, Anna, Clare & Sheila Hulseman; David & Sarah Kloos; Lawrence & Charles Hulseman; and Erin & Michaela Abrams. Fond sister of Eileen Samuelson (Alan) of Park Ridge and Judith Murphy, OSB, of Chicago, and dear aunt to 11 nieces and nephews.

Alumna of St. Scholastica High School and former student at Marquette University, she also held an honorary doctorate from the Catholic Theological Union. Lifelong volunteer and generous supporter at organizations in the Chicago area and Arizona, including Deborah’s Place & Irene’s Place, Misericordia Heart of Mercy, St. Francis Hospital & Resurrection Health Care, the Volunteer Talent Pool, Meals on Wheels, and the North Shore Senior Center. She served for many years as a Democratic Party Judge of Election in her Winnetka district, was an avid golfer, a voracious reader, a world traveler, and a world-class needlepointer, and was a philanthropic supporter of Catholic education, anti-poverty initiatives, and women’s religious communities.
