Independents Defeat Caucus In Northfield Village Board Election

The single incumbent seeking another term on the board was defeated, as two independent candidates won seats on the board.

NORTHFIELD, IL — Three new trustees were elected to the Northfield Village Board Tuesday. Two Northfield village trustees, John Gregorio and Allan M. Kaplan, decided not to seek another four-year term on the six-member board, leaving just a single incumbent among five candidates contesting three open seats.

For the three full terms on the April 5, 2019 ballot, the Northfield Village Caucus endorsed Corinne Carr, William “Todd” Fowler and incumbent Trustee Tom Roszak. Roszak is the owner of Thomas Reszak Architecture LLC, Carr the founder of Carr Legal Group and Fowler a senior vice president for American Realty Advisors.

Charles Orth, a former firefighter who helped lead opposition last year to a proposed memory care facility from Willow Road, and fellow lifetime Northfield resident Tom Whittaker successfully mounted independent campaigns and won seats on the board, according to unofficial results.

With five of five precincts reporting and 845 votes counted early Wednesday, Orth led the pack, followed by Whittaker. The race for the third seat was too close to call.
