Over $10,000 In Savings Bonds Stolen From Safe Deposit Box: Winnetka Crime
Winnetka Police Blotter: May 30 - June 5

WINNETKA, IL — The following information comes from incidents reported to the Winnetka Police Department. An arrest is not an indication of guilt, criminal charges can be dropped or reduced and all defendants are innocent until their guilt is established beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
THEFT (OF BUNTING)
On May 30 at 5:48 p.m., a resident of the 1000 block of Cherry Street discovered that sometime that afternoon someone had taken four buntings from the front deck of the home for a reported loss of $300.

THEFT (OF PLATES)
On June 1 at 2:57 p.m., a resident of the 500 block of Chestnut Street discovered that someone had removed the temporary license plate from the rear of a vehicle between 6:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. the previous night. The replacement costs were reported to be $150.

THEFT (OF JEWELRY)
On June 1 at 2:03 p.m., a resident of the first block of Golf Lane reported that someone had stolen more than $5,000 in jewelry from a home.
THEFT (OF BONDS)
Shortly after 10 a.m. on June 3, more than $10,000 in U.S. savings bonds were discovered to have been stolen from a safety deposit box at a bank in the 500 block of Green Bay Road.
THEFT (OF BIKE)
A victim discovered that between 3:30 p.m. on June 2 and 12:30 p.m. on June 3, someone had removed an unlocked men's bicycle from the bike rack entrance by the Washburne school.
FLEEING AND ELUDING
A Winnetka cop witnessed two motorcyclists speeding down Sheridan Road on June 2 shortly before 6 p.m. The officer initiated a traffic stop. One person was cited. The other refused to comply with the officer's orders and fled from the area. According to Winnetka Police Commander Brian O'Connell, the motorcycle was black and an unknown make and model. The biker who later fled initially stopped in a parking lot prior to police making contact. As an officer approached, the biker put the motorcycle back in gear and fled the area. Police said the investigation continues.
