Panic Alarm Helps Nab Wanted Man; Cops Stop ID Thief: Blotters

NEW TRIER TOWNSHIP, IL — The following information comes from the Glencoe, Kenilworth, Northfield, Wilmette and Winnetka police departments and court records as a record of police activity and incidents reported to the police. Criminal charges merely represent accusations by the state, and county prosecutors often choose to drop or reduce them. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Anyone arrested is innocent unless later proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
GLENCOE
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
Corell Foster, 35, of the 8500 block of South Michigan Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 5 p.m. on March 1 and charged with retail theft, unlawful possession of a theft detection remover and possession of methamphetamine. That afternoon, authorities said, Foster stole a handbag worth $800 from the Lux Lab, 337 Park Ave. and then walked into North Shore Exchange, 372 Hazel Ave., where staff recognized him as a suspect in previous shoplifting incidents and activated the panic alarm. While he was being taken into custody, Glencoe police found the stolen handbag and about 0.4 grams of methamphetamine.

Officers also found he had multiple active arrest warrants from DuPage County connected to retail theft and parole violation allegations. After he was taken into custody, Glencoe police notified their counterparts in Niles, who had issued a crime bulletin seeking to Foster in connection with the Jan. 24 theft of a red fur coat worth $4,000 from Anthony Fur Studio, 7900 N. Milwaukee Ave., and he was also charged with that crime. Authorities later said he has 15 past felony convictions.

Terrance Stailey, 54, of the 1800 block of Tower Road, Glenview, turned himself in to Glencoe police on March 3 to face a charge of felony theft of between $10,000 and $100,000.

The charges stem from allegations that he embezzled the money from the Autohaus on Edens, 1600 Frontage Road between February 2021 and September 2021.

Kenilworth police did not report any incidents or arrests for the week of Feb. 25 to March 4.
NORTHFIELD
INCIDENTS
FRAUD
A Bracken Lane resident reported on March 4 that someone had made several unauthorized credit card transactions worth about $4,000 between July 2021 and October 2021.
SUSPICIOUS VEHICLE
Staff at the Sunset Ridge Country Club, 2100 Sunset Ridge Road, called police on March 4 to report that a suspicious car drove around the parking lot around 1 p.m. that day and sped away when an employee went toward it.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
A 20-year-old Northfield man was arrested on the afternoon of March 2 and charged with driving with a revoked driver's license following a traffic stop in the 1600 block of Winnetka Road. Officers also issued him citations for no front license plate and disobeying a stop sign.
Juris Krjukov, 30, of the 400 block of 28th Place, Chicago, was arrested on the afternoon of March 2 and charged with identity theft after officers intercepted him at the Walgreens, 1825 Willow Road, picking up a laptop that he is accused of purchasing using the identity of a Northbrook resident to buy a laptop from an online retailer. He attempted to pick it up using an identification card with his photo but the other resident's name and was taken into custody.

INCIDENTS
SHOPLIFTING
Staff at the Jewel-Osco, 411 Green Bay Road, reported on the evening of Feb. 25 that a woman had left the store without paying for unspecified merchandise before leaving in a silver Camry.
STROLLER THEFT
A resident in the 1600 block of Forest Avenue reported on March 1 that someone had stolen a baby stroller that had been left unattended in an alley near their garage.
CATALYTIC CONVERTER THEFT
Someone stole a catalytic converter from a Honda SUV parked in the 200 block of Charles Place on or before March 2.
VANDALISM
Someone painted the word "Stalin" in red paint on the door to a trash room of a building in the 1100 block of Greenleaf Avenue on or before March 2.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
A 62-year-old Elk Grove Village man was arrested around noon on Feb. 25 and charged with driving with a suspended license following a traffic stop near Lake Avenue and Illinois Road. He was also ticketed for speeding.
A 49-year-old Evanston man was arrested around 2 a.m. on Feb. 26 and charged with driving without a valid license following a traffic stop near the intersection of Lake Avenue and 16th Street.
WINNETKA
INCIDENTS
CAR BURGLARY
After a car was left unlocked between 11:15 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on March 4 while parked in the lot of the Faith, Hope and Charity Catholic Church at 191 Linden St., a thief opened the door and stole a wallet containing credit cards, a driver's license, insurance and vaccination cards for a loss of more than $1,000.
IDENTITY THEFTS
- A Green Bay Road resident reported on Feb. 28 that someone altered a check that had been left in a village deposit box and cashed it between Dec. 23 and Feb. 11 for a loss of $4,800.
- A Forest Street resident reported on March 1 that someone had used their identity to try to open unauthorized accounts with Home Depot and Best Buy.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
Javier M. Torres, 33, of the 2300 block of South Marshall Boulevard, Chicago, was arrested around 2:30 a.m. on Feb. 28 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, aggravated battery to a police officer and two counts of battery following a traffic stop in the 700 block of Cherry Street. Officers also ticketed him for improper lane usage and disobeying a stop sign.
Jahed Ullah, 27, of the 6300 block of North Claremont Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 9:15 a.m. on Feb. 28 and charged with forgery in connection with an allegation that he attempted to cash a fraudulent check at a bank in the first block of Green Bay Road.
Steven R. Chuk, 33, of the 500 block of Everett Road, Lake Forest, was arrested around 9:30 p.m. on March 2 at the Winnetka Police Department on an active arrest warrant from Lake County after officers were called to a report of a disturbance.
Laura Roklin, 45, of the 1700 block of Rogers Avenue, Glenview, was arrested around 9:30 a.m. March 5 and charged with leaving the scene of an accident at Lake Avenue and Wagner Road. She was also issued an improper turn citation.
